The South Coast Seward Family of companies have joined together to form a cancer research charity named Seward Cancer Foundation. As a company we have always been supportive of the Rowans Hospice and in the past have raised many thousands of pounds. Inspiration to form the charity has been led by Seward Accident Repair Centre Chairman Ian Clark who has recently been diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. It occurred to Ian whilst sitting in the Oncology waiting room how it was time to be proactive and support the Cancer research, so less people are affected in the future. Ian said "It never ceases to amaze him how many people are affected with this illness in various forms and despite every individual persons problems, there is an acceptance to deal with their situation in a positive way, which is inspirational and unique".
We are very fortunate here on the South Coast that Southampton has one of the leading Cancer research units in the UK, which does fantastic work with their ground-breaking research covering most aspects of cancer. Very little of their work is government backed so charity donations are vital for this research to progress, which we want to help with. 1 in 3 people will now have cancer of some description in their lives, truly a sobering thought. 8 out of 10 breast cancer suffers are now cured, a truly positive thought?
The Seward Cancer Foundation committee consists of Ian Clark, Shaun Perry, Kevin Clark and Tony Aquilina.
We began the Seward Cancer Foundation with 2 Christmas Raffles in December 2011 throughout the Seward Sites, which raised over £2500. With pledges and donations from friends, partners and supplies we got off to a fantastic start and in 2012 our first mile stone of £20,000 was achieved. We now need to push on and reach our new target of £50,000.
